Hey you down there! That's right you mouse thingy! Get over here and cook me some budgie bread, I'm starving!!

I got this recipe from Priscilla. Thanks Priscilla!
Budgie Bread
Hmmm. It's a fly by the seat of your pants type recipe!
I use corn bread mix and go wild from there. Instead of using lots of milk and oil I use applesauce for some of the liquid. I grind up the eggshells from the eggs and throw that in. Then add what you want. Some possibilities: pellets, a few seeds, Petamine, oatmeal, wheat germ, baby foods like sweet potatoes...whatever you can think of. It's like playing mad scientist! I have put in grated carrots and broccoli in some batches but I think they like fresh veggies better. I spread it out about 1 inch thick or less and bake. Then I cut it into 1 inch squares and freeze. Then I pull out just what I want to feed and warm it up in the microwave to thaw. My budgies and tiels eat it. Some days more enthusiastically than others. Guess it's like us, sometimes we aren't in the mood for certain foods. Other
days I give them AviCake and when I have fresh broccoli I'll clip a clump in the cages. The budgies go through that like a buzz saw!

Here is another recipie sent in by John. Thanks John!
Budgie Kidney Stew
2 1/2 - 3 cups cooked kidneys, chopped
2 hard-boiled eggs, chopped
1/4 cup wheat germ
1/2 cup oil or bacon grease
3 tblsp flour
2 cups water
1 cup cooked rice
1 cup peas drained
Melt grease and add flour. Stir in water. Cook until thick. Stir in remaining ingredients. May be frozen in patties on a cookie sheet and stored in freezer bags. when feeding to bird use only a small amount. Feed in morning. Remove uneaten food in a few hours.

If your budgie won't take fruit or veggies even though you try and try to make it eat. DON'T WORRY!! Just keep reading.
My budgie, Cheerio would not eat carrots or any thing that I tried to give him. Them I discovered that he likes me to hang left over grape stems or lettuce in his cage. Then he just nibbled away at it! My other bird, Toodleoo likes broccoli in her dish. It's just a matter of what your bird pays more attention to. See if your bird likes hanging toys or ones that clip on the wall. Then serve the fruit and veggies according to that. Never give up. I heard of a lady who had to wait MONTHS before her bird would eat veggies. Patience is always rewarded

you found a feather!
